Yea quick exciting articles are my jam!!! I have a cousin who’s the head librarian at the Denver Botanical Gardens. I’m jealous she has access to so much info on a daily basis.
Yes, I’m interested in it. Also, did you know Ida B. Wells was the first black teacher in Memphis, and she was only 16 when she got her first teaching job. I actually go to church on Ida B Wells Street. She was the very first black school teacher to teach in the Shelby County school system and to attend an HBCU called LeMoyne-Owen College. She was also well known for writing articles herself called “The Living Way” which was a black church weekly. I could tell you more about how she was sued by the railroad and hired a white attorney and won, but it was a lot more fun to read about. I love that I go to church on street name after her, but I hate that I learned about her until I was in college. Especially because I live in the very city where she established the very education system that I grew under at just the tender age of 16.
Hi Lauren! I am not familiar with 'The Living Way'. I am familiar with Ida B. Wells. In fact, I visited Memphis August 2023 (check out yesterday's post if you have time) and someone came in to talk in detail about Ida B. Wells. She was on my radar before then but that really made me want to know more about her + you have just shared even more about her that I was not aware of. This is why I love the community we have/are building because we are all able to discover things together. Love it! Thank you!
I didn't realize it until you said it but I do like articles more than books. Works better for my attention span. Maybe one video of you reading the article so we can listen to it while we are out and about and a second video (or later on on the first video) a discussion about the article.
Yes! An article club!
