I haven’t checked out library books in a loooong time because I want to own the book.
I want to highlight it, write in it, pick it up months later and discover something I completely missed before.
This past week, I decided to go to the library instead of bookstores to take a look at some books.
I was tired of hearing: “No we don’t have that in, but we can order it.” - I completely understand the small independent stores can’t keep everything in stock - compassion given.
I knew I would be able to find the titles at the library. Plus, if I wanted, I could get some work done there instead of a coffee shop.
I grabbed some titles I was interested in and a few I saw while scanning the shelves.
I took my stack to the Juanita Craft Reading Room on the 7th floor, plopped down, read, ate my raisins, read, read, and read some more.
After deciding which books I wanted to check out, I went to the desk and asked the librarian a bajillion questions about some of the resources available based on signs near the elevators.
I learned that the Dallas Public Library has different rooms for creators. For instance, a sewing room, a podcast room, a room to digitize files, etc etc. After a tutorial, creators can use the rooms free of charge. WHAT!?!?
She shared more information about the 7th floor, the history, and archives available. Hearing about all of the resources made my pupils turn to hearts.
I definitely want to visit more and take advantage of the incredible resources that are free of charge.
What are some of the resources your local library offer?
When was your last visit?
If it has been a while, does this make you want to go?
THAT’S IT Y’ALL - see ya here next Sunday at 3:33p CT

Great question. End of last year. I was home in BK and had a chance to visit The Brooklyn Library and saw the JayZ exhibit.
I would love to visit the Frisco library more often but it’s anything but quiet in there 😕
