Things discovered in real life and online that you may like too.
SHE TRIED IT - Magnesium Liquid & Magnesium Flakes - After listening to Dr. Tara Swart on Ali Abdaal’s Deep Dive Podcast, I decided I needed to start taking magnesium.
She says:
Stats show 70% of us are deficient.
STRESS eats up magnesium.
We can’t eat enough leafy greens to replace it.
Studies show gels, tablets, etc are fine BUT if you apply transdermally (through the skin) it’s like taking it through an IV. - say WHAAAAAT!?!
I went to Whole Foods and got this liquid one - I wanted to put it on skin but they didn’t have what I wanted so I got liquid with plans to order skin one later.
Now my stress can pull from the 300mg of this damn liquid!
Fast forward - I ordered these flakes. Put ‘em in a bath and soaked for 30 minutes.
Ahhh! I’m a shower girl. I forgot how nice a bath can be.
I feel like my injured leg/knee feels better - gonna continue to track to make sure it’s not placebo.
I will say, after surgery my orthopedic surgeon had me on magnesium. So there’s that.
Do you take a magnesium supplement? - *remember I am not a doctor so please check with your doctor to make sure you’re good.
Here’s the interview with Dr. Tara Swart. The whole podcast is great but if you wanna skip to the magnesium part it is at 1:03:55.
SHE SAID/HE SAID - “When you walk with someone, something unspoken happens. Either you match their pace or they match yours.” - Sidney Poitier
Les Brown referenced Sidney’s quote and asked: “whose pace have you adjusted to?”
the context: be mindful who’s in your circle/tribe - Les Brown says it here at 50:35
IN MY EAR - me: ALEXA! play Isochronic Tones For Meditation
Also you can find ALL KINDS of meditation, focus/study, and sleep music on Jason Lewis’ YouTube channel
I AM BOOKed - finally ordered The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers and added it to the ‘to be read’ stack.
have you heard about it? read it?
TRY IT WITH ME - This week I plan to have 3 phoneLESS walks for 45 minutes.
why? to THINK freely. find answers. come up with ideas.
from The New Yorker article by Ferris Jabr:
Because we don’t have to devote much conscious effort to the act of walking, our attention is free to wander—to overlay the world before us with a parade of images from the mind’s theatre. This is precisely the kind of mental state that studies have linked to innovative ideas and strokes of insight.
