10 TD JAKES’ QUOTES / TAKEAWAYS FROM HOURS OF WATCHING/READING (interviews, tweets, articles, etc etc….)
For at least 3 years, every morning, I would send a couple friends quotes from TD Jakes.
I have never been to his church and I don’t really watch a lot of his sermons BUT I love his books and interviews.
here we go….
“It is hard to fill a broken person. Whatever you pour in leaks out.”
“Every so often, if you're going to soar, you have to decide what you are going to leave behind in order to break into the orbit that you were created to fly in!”
“Help may be coming through somebody that you decided: she thinks she’s something. She IS something! That’s why God sent her to help you!”
“You were afflicted so that you can help deliver other people from what you escaped from.”
"Things that are covered don’t heal well."
“There is an old person down inside of you that’s depending on you to be smart. It’s the person you’re gonna be thirty, forty years from now. Do not disappoint that person by being foolish through the strongest years of your life.”
"You can't drink it away. You can't smoke it away. You can't sex it away.”
“Devour something. Throw your whole self at something. You'll never know what you can do, and what you can be until you throw your whole self at it. Devour it. I mean devour it! Don’t try it. Attack it!”
"You have to be willing to walk in rooms where you feel out of place….I’m only happy when I’m in a room where I feel stupid. I love to be in rooms where I have to think carefully before I respond to anything because I don’t wanna sound like a fool…those are expansion rooms. Those are rooms that you grow in.”
“People become creatures of habit so easily. We get up, we go to work, we come home, we shop at the same grocery store, we drive on the same street. Get out of the box and see what else is out there......Stop hanging with the same people. Get in another circle. Risk feeling awkward“
*** BONUS ***
Do it broke.
Do it scared.
Do it nervous.
Do it trembling.
Do it on your knees.
Do it with help.
Do it on crutches.
Do it in a wheelchair.
because you don’t want to end up in a nursing home, sitting on a bedpan, wondering what would’ve happened if you had only had more courage.
Which one spoke to you? Number SIX is on repeat in my head.
