HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL!
SHE TRIED IT (over the years) - a new year gets us all thinking about our lives - even if you don’t make resolutions.
We tend to think about:
What we wanna do.
What we wanna try.
Who we wanna be.
I love a good challenge. And I love a good list. Here are 10 THINGS I’ve tried over the years you may consider in 2023
macrobiotic eating - This book by Marilu Henner took me down that path. I tried this over 20 years ago. One thing that stuck, don’t eat and drink. We don’t see animals eat a little, then walk over and drink water.
running half marathon - I’ve ran a total of five half marathons. I decided to do my first one as a 30th birthday celebration. I joined a local running group, met some incredible women, and discovered I COULD run longer than sprint distances.
Our bodies are amazing! At the time, a lot of them loved this training method.
morning pages journaling - from the author: “Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning.
*There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages*– they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only.” her very popular book is ‘The Artist’s Way”.
The 3 date rule - giving a guy three dates before deciding, he ain’t it! Choosing this versus bailing after not feeling sparks on date one.
This is a concept from Dr. Pat Allen. She offers wonderful dating wisdom. ESPECIALLY for ‘alpha women’ and being feminine. (yes. I did end up dating some cool guys that normally would not have gone beyond the first date.)
75 Hard - after a terrible accident (broken femur), I wanted to do something to feel strong again - mentally and physically. This was it!
The creator is Andy Frisella. Check it out here! He says ‘think of it as the ironman for your brain.’
minimalist closet - while my apartment is far from minimalist, my closet is 100% minimalist. I have approximately 50-70 items + under 20 pairs of shoes.
This journey began in 2015 and I’ve never looked back. I posted about my year of no shopping and getting to this place here.
a word diet - I tried this for the first time in 2008! I continue to try and be mindful but I backslide because ‘this mouF’.
The idea came after reading a favorite author: Florence Scovel Shinn - she brought up an old saying: “..man dares only uses his words for three purposes...to heal, bless or prosper.” - I love the idea of that and want to remain mindful.
reading 10 pages a day of the same book - I landed on this number after 75 hard (above) because that’s one of the things I had to do each day. Think about it, in one month, you finish a 300+ page book.
Abstaining (on purpose) - I’ve done this more than once. I’ve done it as a ‘reset’ and I did it once when I became engaged. (1) because at the time I was more religious than spiritual (2) I wanted us to have something to look forward to once we married. *shoulder shrug
SO! I didn’t marry the guy. I left. I had a Vegas trip and…. It was a solid 10 month run though.
reverse savings plan - I did this for 1/2 year and thought it was fairly easy to follow. Even if you decide to cut the dollar amounts in half, the goal: SAVE.
THAT’S IT Y’ALL - see ya here next Sunday at 3p CT.Which one is your favorite? Do you make resolutions?
I’m always open to dialogue and feedback.
