This was my first year going to the annual Malcolm X Festival at Pan-African Connection Bookstore and oh how I love that my first one happened during his 100th birthday celebration.
I would like to put you there via videos and pictures. Let’s get to it.
The festival was happening 12-5p. I went later in the day. Full disclosure, I got sluggish and was considering not going. I am so SO happy I got it together (post power nap) and went.
So happy!
Thankfully, the rain did let up so the books were not ruined. YAY!
“…the ability to read awoke inside me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive.” - Malcolm X | The Autobiography of Malcolm X
“One of the first things I think young people, especially nowadays, should learn is how to see for yourself and listen for yourself and think for yourself. Then you can come to an intelligent decision for yourself.” - Malcolm X speaking to Mississippi Youth | Malcolm X Speaks
The BEST! I love that no one was making him stop.
E.H. Visual Archive had some nice prints. I will have to catch up with him because he was packing up when I came back for a second look.
Like I said, I was arrived late.
Ms. Chimene (and her Angela Bassett arms) talk to us about Edmond Albius. I love, Love, LOVE what she did!
Find her cards, journals, etc etc here.
I think a photographer was using that to take pictures. I wanted both of these items. Gorge! Pan-African Connection also sells textiles and stools.
Masks, baskets, etc….
I had more footage than I realized celebrating Malcolm X’s legacy on his 100th birthday - part 2 tomorrow. (born May 19, 1925)
“Not long ago, an English writer telephoned me from London, asking questions. One was, “What’s your alma mater?” I told him, books.” - Malcolm X | The Autobiography of Malcolm X
What was your favorite part of this festival?
Do you have a favorite Malcolm X quote or book?
Let’s chat in the comments.
THANKS SO MUCH for being here.
Hugs, Love, and Gratitude Y’all!
