Over the years I have posted various things I learned. Often there are themes - Black History, Women’s History Month, elections, snowmageddon, etc etc.
I recently gathered some of my old posts around voting to use for a video. Here are some of those posts….
Last year I featured Thomas Mundy Peterson on my Instagram series
‘Black Stories We Should All Know’. Check that story out here.
According to The Sentencing Project, state-level disenfranchisement rates range from 0.15% in Massachusetts to more than 8% in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. In Vermont and Maine (along with Washington, D.C.), none of the population is disenfranchised because those jurisdictions allow people in prison to vote.
Currently, 11 states deny voting rights to people after they finish their full sentences, including parole and probation. (via NPR | 2022)

I always love a good visual and ‘mija.sf’ delivered in 2018…
While this was Dallas County I am sure each state has this.
I found this super helpful with the bajillion propositions on the ballot.
I spent some time this week calling around trying to see where Ms. Juanita Craft voted because I wanted to be as close as I could.
The Dallas City Archivist will be researching and getting back to me.
Honestly, I didn’t even know that was a job. It makes sense. I just never thought about it - I learned something. The thought of asking him if he needs a volunteer has crossed my mind.
November 2022 - I still stand by the same message…. be sure to vote if you haven’t already, put it on your calendar, consider offering someone a ride, and THANK the people volunteering at the polls.
While I didn’t get to vote exactly where Ms. Craft voted, I did vote in her neighborhood at the MLK Branch Library.
Afterwards, I took a picture in front of this incredible mural by Lakeem Wilson.
"This is a thing that I worry about a little bit, how much some of us have put into this thing for so many other people to get so much out of and then they don't even know what's going on." - Juanita Craft (source: The Craft of Civil Rights | Michael L. Gillette | February 2010)
Thanks so much for being here.
