Thing One - CORN
I can’t even remember how I started down the rabbit hole of ‘no corn’.
Regardless how it started, I emerged giving up corn.
I am not trying to convince you not to eat corn, I am only sharing why I decided to give it up. It is just another thing on my journey to eating better (for me).
From my research, the US messes with corn too much. We are doing way more than corn was meant to do.
Only a tiny fraction of corn grown in the U.S. directly feeds the nation’s people, and much of that is from high-fructose corn syrup. - Jonathan Foley (March 2013)
In short, the corn crop is highly productive, but the corn system is aligned to feed cars and animals instead of feeding people. - Jonathan Foley (March 2013)
And theeeeeennnnn - Mexico doesn’t even want to eat our corn!
There is a Spanish idiom—“sin maíz no hay país”; meaning that “without corn, there is no country” - National Geographic (February 2024)

Thing Two - FOUNDATION
Lemme say this first, I LOVE makeup!
I used to sit like this….
waiting on the annual ‘BEST OF BEAUTY’ issue from Allure Magazine
I feel like I have gone through all cycles of wearing foundation.
medium coverage
light coverage
spot coverage
popular brands
brands with sunscreen
tinted moisturizers
etc
etc
I decided no foundation after searching for a unicorn:
a clean brand
won’t irritate my skin (contact dermatitis)
will MATCH my skin tone
and not be heavy coverage
Like many of my ‘give up’ challenges, I set out to try it for 30 days and that was two years ago.
Yes of course, I watched a 836347 YouTube videos to be in community with like-minded people.
This happened over years of wearing it. By the time I gave it up, I was not wearing much anyway - light coverage and in spots to ‘even out’ skin.
By the way, I gave up foundation, not makeup altogether. I am still a big blush lover, my glasses took care of finding the perfect mascara, and I wear lipstick.
Currently there are about three blush brands in rotation - all clean brands.
Westman Atelier (I use this as a blush)
This solution has worked for me.
I collect inspiration on my Pinterest board: Chic Minimalist Makeup - dark skin - Pinterest up’d their game and will now let you select your skin tone.
Have you ever had to do a product elimination to figure out what was irritating your skin?
Would love to hear your experience.
Thing Three - THE SCALE
For the sake of time, I will pick up here next week.
Basically, I started weighing every single morning. I will share why next week.
Thanks so much for being here.
See ya next Sunday at 3:33p CT
Hugs, Love, and Gratitude Y’all!
